A Comprehensive Experience Evaluation on the Digital Volunteering

Posted on 4 May 20254 May 2025

This article focuses on my experience in the international project titled “Digital Volunteering,” organized within the scope of the Erasmus+ program and hosted by Paydaş Eğitim Kültür ve Sanat Derneği in Türkiye. The project aimed to develop the concept of volunteering in the digital world and to empower young individuals in this field.

Participants from various countries, including Türkiye, came together to gain digital competencies and enhance intercultural communication. I also had the opportunity to take on a leadership role within the Turkish team. This comprehensive experience contributed significantly to my personal development and helped me understand the multidimensional nature of digital volunteering.

The project was shaped around the theme of digital volunteering and aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and cultures among international participants. The main objective was to raise young people’s awareness of digital technologies, digital citizenship, and volunteering and equip them to become active contributors in these areas. The project activities included theoretical and hands-on learning through workshops, presentations, and group work.

Throughout the project, a wide range of digital topics were addressed. These included digital safety, social media management, digital literacy, artificial intelligence applications, and website development. Participants had the opportunity to not only learn about these topics but also to apply them through interactive sessions. The group activities encouraged participants to generate creative solutions and effectively use digital tools.

In addition, the integration of digital volunteering into the work of

non-governmental organizations (NGOs) was discussed extensively, emphasizing not only the technical aspects but also the social impacts of digital initiatives.

One of the key aspects that made this experience even more meaningful was the contribution of the local partner, Paydaş Eğitim Kültür ve Sanat Derneği. The Organization enriched the project not only with digital content but also with cultural and social activities. One such highlight was the city tour organized on our free day, which was both enjoyable and informative for all participants.

During this tour, we visited six different areas of Zonguldak. An expert provided detailed insights into the city’s history, cultural background, and social dynamics. This experience was especially valuable for international participants, as it offered a deeper understanding of Türkiye and promoted intercultural learning and awareness.

The multinational structure of the project enabled rich cultural interaction among participants. English served as the common language, facilitating effective communication and fostering collaboration. Thanks to the openness and communicative nature of the participants, no serious communication problems were encountered throughout the program.

Working with people from different countries contributed not only to language development but also to the enhancement of social skills such as empathy, tolerance, cultural sensitivity, and teamwork.

Through this project, I gained extensive knowledge of current digital tools, technologies, and approaches. Observing how digital tools can be effectively utilized in volunteering initiatives broadened my perspective in this field. Moreover, I had the chance to strengthen my skills in teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and public speaking.

Engaging in an intercultural environment and communicating with individuals from various cultural backgrounds provided me with a rich and multifaceted learning experience. These achievements have played a crucial role in shaping both my academic and personal growth.

The Erasmus+ KA153 Digital Version Volunteering project not only improved participants’ digital skills but also contributed to the development of globally minded, interculturally competent, and socially responsible individuals. Hosted by Paydaş Eğitim Kültür ve Sanat Derneği, this project was an unforgettable and valuable experience for me. The knowledge, experiences, and social gains I acquired throughout the project have left a lasting impact on my academic journey and personal development. Considering the multifaceted benefits of such projects for young individuals, the importance of expanding access to Erasmus+ programs becomes even more evident.
