“About Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fuad Alhaj Omar”

Posted on 8 January 20268 January 2026

1. Could you briefly tell us about your profession and areas of expertise?

I am an academic and researcher in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. I currently serve as the Head of the Department of Electrical and Energy at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University in Türkiye. My areas of expertise include renewable energy systems, power electronics, photovoltaic (PV) systems, and energy demand assessment. In addition, I conduct research on the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques for energy forecasting and for improving the efficiency of electrical systems.

2. What have been the most important experiences you have gained throughout your career?

The most influential experiences that have shaped my professional career include:

  • Having the opportunity to integrate academic research with practical and applied work,
  • Supervising graduate students in advanced fields such as PV systems, MPPT techniques, and artificial intelligence applications,
  • Actively participating in national and international research projects, particularly those supported by TÜBİTAK,
  • Gaining a multidimensional and comparative perspective by working in different academic environments such as Syria, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom,
  • Publishing peer-reviewed scientific articles in international Q1 and Q2 journals.

3. What are the main objectives of your work and your sources of motivation?

The primary objective of my work is to make engineering a tool that serves humanity and society. I particularly focus on the following areas:

  • Energy transition and sustainability,
  • Reducing energy poverty,
  • Improving the efficient use of energy resources.

My main source of motivation is my belief that scientific knowledge remains incomplete unless it is transformed into social benefit. In addition, contributing to the education of future generations and helping to develop a qualified human capital serve as strong driving forces for me.

4. How would you define your unique perspective in your field?

I view engineering not merely as a collection of technical calculations and theories, but as one of the fundamental components of social and economic development.

Therefore, in my work, I place particular emphasis on:

  • Connecting scientific research with real-life problems,
  • Making complex technical concepts understandable and accessible,
  • Addressing scientific analysis, technology, and the human dimension together.

Moreover, I focus on innovative solutions that are not only theoretical but also practical, applicable, and impactful in the field.

5. What are your future plans and the projects you are currently working on?

Looking ahead, I am continuing my work across multiple areas, including:

  • The development of artificial intelligence–based models for forecasting electricity generation and consumption,
  • Projects aimed at recovering waste or lost energy in industrial environments such as mining operations,
  • Comprehensive academic studies on the social impacts of energy poverty,
  • Preparing innovative, visual, and accessible scientific content for young people and students,
  • Strengthening international academic collaborations and disseminating research that can contribute to energy policies.

6. What advice would you give to young people regarding their future lives and career goals?

I would like to offer the following advice to young people:

  • Make lifelong learning a way of life,
  • Always support theoretical knowledge with practical skills and hands-on experience,
  • Improve proficiency in foreign languages and digital technologies,
  • Do not fear failure; instead, view it as a natural part of the learning process,
  • When choosing a career and field of study, consider not only short-term opportunities but also your true interests and passions.

Most importantly, believe that every young person has a meaningful role in shaping the future, no matter how long or challenging the journey may be.
